Many designers use and feel comfortable drawing in Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator’s ease of use combined with numerous tools for manipulating vector based and image data make it powerful package for sketching ideas. Concepts is also a powerful package for sketching ideas, with strengths that literally take users into another dimension, namely 3D. Among Concepts strengths are its ability to read Illustrator vector data and to turn this data into 3D parts or precise CAD drawings with dimensions. Additionally, Concepts can act as a bridge between Illustrator and CAD systems such as AutoCAD, ProE, and CATIA, by providing tools to automatically convert 3D data into 2D data suitable for export back to Illustrator. Saving as an Adobe Illustrator File. Demonstrates three methods for saving an Adobe Illustrator file for importing into Concepts. The three methods discussed are: Save As Adobe Illustrator Version 8, Save As Adobe Illustrator EPS Version 8, Save As DWG/DXF, 1. Creating a file to save. Launch Adobe Illustrator and display the Brushes palette from the menu bar Window. Drag the green leaf from the window over into the drawing area of Illustrator. This is the file we will save and export to CSI-Concepts. 2. Method One: Save the File Adobe Illustrator Version 8. The first example will be to save the file as an Illustrator (.ai) file. Select the Save As command from the File menu. The dialog box below is displayed. Select the Adobe Illustrator Document item from the drop down menu and click OK. The dialog box below is displayed. Select the Illustrator 8.0 from the compatibility drop down item and click OK. The file is written and ready to import into Concepts as an AI file. Note version 8.0 are based upon a version of the EPS file definition. Versions greater than 8 are based upon a PDF format not supported by Concepts. 3. Method Two: Save the File Adobe Illustrator EPS. Our second example will be to save the file as an Illustrator (.eps) file. Select the Save As command from the File menu.
